Heavy Cruiser HMAS Canberra, 1/400

My previous ship model, HMCS Midland is in fact done, missing only rigging, and I've begun to build another 1/400 warship. This time it's legendary Aussie heavy cruiser HMAS Canberra - the ship of County class that was lost in tragic battle at Savo Island 8. - 9. 8. 1942 together with 3 US Navy cruisers.
Model is my own drawing, based on JSC model Norfolk. I've found on internet and other sources the most probably appearance of Canberra this day, including cammo of Chicago Blue color that were used by non-US ship, operating under US Navy command (HMAS Australia, HMS Victorious etc).
As always, my model is simple, without hundreds of details - only for fun. :-)

First is construction of hull:

Sides and deck:

First superstructures:

Conning tower:

To be continued ....

I am excited to watch the progress on your HMAS Canberra. My father served on HMAS Australia after the war, and I have considered converting the JSC HMS Norfolk as well. I did not know that the Canberra was painted blue. It will make for a colorful model.

Robert.

Hi Robert!
As far as I know both HMAS Canberra & HMAS Australia were painted Chicago Blue in the time of Battle at Savo Island. Later Australia got overall paint Dark Grey color that she wore in Phillipines Campaign late 1944 year.

I am sorry, but I am not allowed to share it. This is not my construction, the origin of my model is JSC kit, so according to author rights I can't send it to another people. :-(
