HIJMS Ashigara
Hi all,
Right now I'm preparing a new model, the Japanese Heavy Cruiser ASHIGARA ( scale 1:200)from the MYOKO Class. I placed the following message in several fora from cardmodeling to naval fora's. I like to build her as she was in 1937 during her visit to Europe (Portsmouth and Kiel), during this visit she was photographed extensavely in Portsmouth as well as in Kiel. I must say I have some pictures (15 high res ones) and some small ones of her during this trip, but I know there are more especialy from Kiel. I have contacted the National Maritime Museum and in Germany the Bundesarchiv, but until now no response. Maybe there are some forum members (especialy the Japanese ones) who can help me to more information about these pictures, just feel free !!! Greetings John. PS: my NAGATO 1931 model is coming along fine, but is now in a Summer stop. She will be finished first before I start the ASHIGARA. Last edited by JohnMGD; 05-31-2009 at 09:04 AM. |

John,
I'm very glad to know that you are starting IJN ship build here. You inspired me with your 'Takao' at DN site and it was the beginning of my ship build This is the first time for me to follow your build from the beginning. I look forward to it Yu |

I love the Myoko class very much. It's beyond my capabilities to find the reference you need but please share your build so that we can appreciate it.

John, is this a scratch build or are you doing a beta for someone?

It will be a partly scratch build, I'm only going to use the old GPM model of NACHI as a template for frames and hull parts, the rest will be scratch build.

This is a very impressive project. With all your research and the anticipated scratch building, it will be an instructive and fascnating thread.

I hope the old Nachi hull is close, it has only two screws where there should be 4 so I wonder about the rest. I too love the Myoko's, these were "THE" most attractive, all business, cruisers of any nation in my opion. Can't wait for this build.
