Well I just couldn't bring myself to dodgy up the deck supports.
I sliced off the old, short ones, laminated and cut new ones and glued them on.
As can be seen in the photo. Happy now.
Two cups of tea and I'm ready to tackle the paddle wheels ( detailed versions). So thin, so delicate, so scary.
Plan A was to glue on one blade at a time, allowing the glue to dry between each one. However I found it impossible to do it this way as there no way to ensure the blades are true to the sides. Too wobbly.
Plan B was to quickly improvise a building jig, the center toothpick for the wheel to spin on and the outer one stops the wheel turning while the blade is glued to the top position. That toothpick is then removed, the wheel turned and it is reinserted.
I worked in a crisscross pattern and quickly so as the glue remained soft and I was able to keep pushing and pulling as I went to ensure it all remained square.
Happy with results, now they just need painting.
The good thing is that if the builder makes a woops it can be hidden by the large wheel covers, only a small portion of the wheel is visible.

Small world, I have the Float a boat plans for the Pevensey,originally built as the barge "Mascotte" then converted to the steam driven ship.
I Crewed on her sister ship the Ulonga ( convered to a Ketch, single screw & diesal engine) before she was lost off the coast of SA.

There are many good images of her, and other boats, paddle-wheeling up and down the river in that part of Australia.

I love paddleboats, and especially enjoyed the TV show "All the Rivers Run." [Got the DVDs, too.] So, may have to get one of these, myself.

great looking build.i use sheet of glass rather than wood for building base mainly because its cleaner to lift hull off of.i also do the same as you ie use the copies for building and keep original

Funny you should ask.
The move to a new house behind me.
The "to do" job list is diminishing, all though "her indoors" adds new ones.
A little evening "me time" is now available.
So only yesterday I showed Pevensry the light of day for the first time in a while.
Looking at her in that "light of day" left me feeling I could have done a better job.
So I decided to start again and now all sheets are printed and sprayed, ready to go.
So hopefully tomorrow I'll lay the keel.

Yeah Wyatt, I bought mine direct as well. They just released a model of the beautiful former Royal Dutch Navy hydrograhioc vessel / salonboat ss "Hydrograaf".
I'm waiting for the lasercuts to be released in a a couple of months before I buy.

Herky, This is why I like to copy and keep the original. Sometimes I need spares for a practice run too.
I see the benefits of glass and don't think I haven't considered it but the first time my piece of radiata took a nose dive into the floor I knew I'd made a good decision.
