I followed your build of SMS Beowulf, and thought that was impressive. This build will be even more of an eye-opener.
The photos of how you took the 2D plans and turned them into a 3-dimensional paper object are an instructive delight. This will be another master tutorial for rank amateurs like me. Thanks Mike! Look forward to much more. |

I too will be watching this project with interest. I have those plans as well; we seem to have some of the same sources. My current projects are from the same Navy, but about 80 years later (late 50s/early 60s), So I've utilized another source of plans; those intended for R/C projects, scaned & reduced. Then using the same technique as You did to create the frames. First attempt will be smaller than a battleship though : A69 class Aviso, an anti-submarine escort.
Hoping to catch some ideas, hints, & tips on extracting parts from plans by 'looking over your shoulder' on this one. à la français, Bonne continuation et bon travail. Jeff C |

Great project of your !
I too love those old ships, build the "la hoche" from modelik, have the "dupuy de lôme" too. Oriel has some too, wondering what those kits look like few references you may like : LES NAVIRES 1860-1921 marine - Forum Pages d If your're into those old ships, there's a book too, isbm 2915379718, 96 pages, 96 ships (jauréquiberry not in it), one full page picture and a quick history each, a little expensive 18€n more a collector than reference, but I bet your library looks like mine . A project to follow. Looking forward of it

Very interesting Jeff. Regarding technique: Lets see what happens. I'm going to build the hull frame in a series of decks, much like the real ship. It is not necessary, but since the plans provide it, I thought it would be fun. Mike |

Hi Mike,
I enjoyed following your other ship builds and look forward to this one. I do like the earlier, quirky ships. Cheers Slog |
