07 – Hatches, Turets and Skylights
Thanks Darren, Renaud, David and Vince.
Here is another group of images. Jauréguiberry was built with searchlights in the bow and stern. The first image shows the doors that were designed to swing open for use of the searchlight. Images 59 and 60 are taken from historical photos that provide excellent views of how the doors worked, and the searchlight. Both images also provide an abundance of detail of the bow area. The final images show the work with the stern skylights, and the bow and stern 305mm turrets. The gun barrels are rolled with paper, while the remaining parts are all made of paper or card. Yes, the historical images are an added treat to the build. I'd have never guessed about the enclosed bow and stern searchlights, quite interesting.

08 – Turrets
Thanks Don, SWForests and David.
I appreciate the motivating comments. My original plan was to install the gun barrels in the turrets with their position fixed. However, I changed my mind. You can see in these photos the type of mechanism I came up with to allow the barrel to move up and down. Designers incorporate this feature in many clever ways. I went with an “axle-in-box” system. It was not too complex, and they work quite well, so I am happy with them. All four turrets can be removed from the deck to make future construction more convenient. I added an historical image of the forward turret. It is not a very high quality image, yet it reveals a lot of detail. Regards, Mike |

Hey Mike!
She looks great. Those gun barrels are impecable, as usual. I found that bow/stern searchlight particularly interesting. Thats an odd place to put them... I must confess that I never gave so much attention to those pre-dreadnoughts, but following your model builds, I see their beauty. Best regards Ed |

I'm impressed by the way you make the complicated shape of this ship's hull so taut without dents and bumps. Compliments.

I want to thank Don, Ed and Abhovi for the compliments.
Ed: The pre-dreadnoughts have been enjoyable for me. Experimentation was rampant in the late 19th century, and so many variations and configurations developed. And their colors brighten up my living room. Mike |
