22 – Mast Armament

Thank You: Don, Shipbuild, Mntcorg, Doug J, Fred, Glen and David.

I decided to leave the aft superstructure, and push the work on the upper masts forward.

These images don’t show much progress, but they contain quite a bit of work. Replicating the 47mm guns for the armored masts took some time. All the parts for the guns are paper.

In addition to the eight 47mm guns featured in these images, Jauréguiberry was equipped with eight 37mm guns housed in platforms above. More on those next time.

The historical image contains good views of the masts.

Regards,
Mike

Nice Mike! Looks like a lot of work on those tiny guns, but it does add to the look of the vessel as the masts are so visible. I was just noticing the amount of tumblehome on the photo...

Superb work as usual Mike. How I would love to travel back to around 1900 and tour the worlds naval ports.

Excellent work on those fighting tops, Mike!

I like the inclusion of the historical image of the original ship for comparison.

I actually like making those little guns and you have done a marvelous job. What a beauty this ugly duckling is becoming.

Most of what I have seen you do include a full hull. Do you ever do waterline dioramas? Do you ever add the little scale sailors?

Your Jaureguiberry is looking good enough to ship out on!

Thanks Glen Robert and Don.

Thanks Mtncorg: I enjoy the full hulls, so I have never attempted a waterline project. However, much of the inspiration for building the old French battleships comes from the work of Golden Bear (Carl). When I became a member of this site in 2009, Carl was building waterline French pre-dreadnoughts. I really enjoyed watching his work. His waterline projects can be found on this site.

Those masterpieces I have seen. The few ships I have done, I have enjoyed setting in a diorama. Stories told whichever mode you use. I will continue to watch as you complete your masterpiece. Those jigs you use - as all attest - are clever in the extreme. Saves on the photoetch pieces!
