Nice work there, Michael!
This reminds me of Carl's (Golden Bear's) work. Sadly, I lost touch with all of you guys while I'm busy elsewhere. ;( Best, Oliver

Hello Oliver, It’s a pleasure to hear from you again. Yes, as you can see, this project was inspired by Carl’s work. I hope we see you here more often. Regards, Mike |

That is truly an incredible model. I have noticed you and others tossing the name around, but never got around to looking it up. In her day she would have really looked futuristic.
I have had a interest in battleships and heavy cruisers ever since my 3rd Class cruise as a Midshipman while attending the US Naval Academy. I sailed in the USS Des Moines (CA 134) that year, and fell in love with the lady. At over 700 feet, she was impressive; except when she was moored near the USS Iowa (who sailed with us). John |

15 – Forward Superstructure
Thanks Elliott, Don, Shipbuild, David, John, Oliver and John.
I have some progress to report on the superstructure. The first images show the work with the ”Poste d'observation de l'Amiral” (Admiral’s Observation Post). It is located below what will be the 47mm gun platform on the forward mast. After that was mounted on the mast, it was time for some installation. First the handrails were installed, and then I was able to attach the Armored Conning Tower, Chart House, Passerelle Superieure (upper bridge), Helmsman’s Wheel and Wheelhouse and finally the mast with the Admiral’s Post. Also a pair of ladders from the Navigation Deck to the end of the Upper Bridge can be seen installed in image 138. The overview image shows the current state of the project. The historical image is a close-up of the forward superstructure in 1895. I like it because it shows the wood construction of the Wheelhouse, which I tried to duplicate. Also, this image provides a good view of smaller pieces of equipment that will need to be replicated. Regards, Mike |
