Looking at photo of the real deal I'm wondering how long it would take to mend things which had gotten shot up in a fight, are soooo many bits and pieces.

22 – Mast Armament

22 – Mast Armament

Hello modelers: Time for some photos to bring the work up to date.

The 47mm gun platforms were covered with canvas during inclement weather. The first two images show the installation of the spars that support the canvas.

The upper 37mm gun platforms are shown in images 216 and 217. I made the roofs out of basswood to better create the rounded edges. The basswood was also convenient to support the upper mast spars (more on that next time). The remainder of the platform is made of paper.

The final two images show the test fitting of the 47mm (below) and the 37mm (above) gun platforms.

Most of the historical images of this ship have great views of the masts, including this one.

Regards,
Mike

24 – Masts

Thanks Shipbuild, Don and Tomek for the encouraging comments.

I have been working at the top of Jauréguiberry. Support brackets were added to the undersides of the gun platforms. The spotlights should be approx. 90 feet above the waterline, and the top of the mast spars should be approx. 130 feet above the waterline.

I provided an excellent close-up historical photo of the forward mast. It shows all the details needed to create an authentic replica.

The searchlights, railing and mast spars begin to fill out the silhouette of this ship, as seen in the overview.

Regards,
Mike

Magnificent images of a magnificent ship and model.

The historic image shows how closely you have captured the appearance of this classic French warship.

Superb detail work. The overall view of the ship is truly outstanding.

Félicitations pour votre superbe artisanat sur ce beau navire de guerre.

Merci Don pour les remarques merveilleuses.
It was luck to have an old image with such remarkable detail.
I simply attempt to get close to a decent replication.
Mike

p.s. I hope you are enjoying a warm summer in south central Pennsylvania.

Mike - It's a strange day today. Warm and humid with towering cumulus clouds. Intermittent bright sunshine and deep gloom. A line of thunderstorms is approaching from the northwest, and I anticipate a deluge momentarily. Don
