Cumberland Valley . . . . yes? Not far from Gettysburg battlefield? Beautiful part of the country. (even in a thunderstorm) Mike |

I have run out of words to describe how impressed I am with this scratch build. It truly is an inspiration to see what can be done by a talented builder !

25 – Upper Masts
Thank You Shipbuild.
In addition to authenticity, I thought the lanterns would add some decorative value to the ship. The drawing shows the location of two on the forward mast. I attempted to make the lanterns from paper, but the result was not very good. So they are made of wood while the brackets attaching them to the mast are paper. When I have a problem getting a good result from paper, wood is my “second-choice” material. I will make things like lanterns, bells or capstans with it. Next up: the remaining mast spars were attached to the sides of the 37mm gun platform. Then I decided to go ahead with some of the rigging. I made the rigging from paper, and painted it black. The historical image is blurry, but it is fun seeing the crewman up there. Regards, Mike |

The lanterns are a nice detail, Mike, and add a lot, whatever they are made of.
To answer your earlier question: yes, I live about 40 minutes from the Gettysburg National Military Park and spend a lot of time there. Until this year, when my spinal arthritis caused me to stop, I have led USAWC staff rides to Gettysburg and Antietam (Maryland Campaign: South Mountain, Harpers Ferry, and the Antietam Battlefield). Glad you are enjoying the work Don. Being in the vicinity of all those historic sites must be a pleasure. Sounds like you know your way around Gettysburg. Mike |

26 – Superstructure Details & Bulwarks
Here are some new photos.
I returned to the aft superstructure to finish adding some equipment. Four more 47mm guns and two ventilators were built and installed. I think that finishes the work with the 47mm guns. I left the aft superstructure and began work at midship on the bulwarks. Jauréguiberry had bulwarks on both sides between the forward and aft 138mm gun turrets. They were large enough to contain storerooms and cabins, including the Admiral’s dining room. The deck (roof) on top of the bulwarks will be used for storage of many of the boats. All the parts for the guns, ventilators and bulwarks are paper. The bulwarks’ deck (roof) was cut from card. Regards, Mike |

I was just wondering when your next set of photos would appear ! It's been a real treat to watch the construction of this ship. Paper model shipbuilding doesn't get any better than this !

Superb work on the 47mm guns and on all the detail work. Thanks for the dramatic historic image of Jauréguiberry under steam.
