Michael,
Maybe this is already known to you, or you have it already, but still I like to place it here on the forum: https://ia800708.us.archive.org/11/i...smon00pete.pdf The book "Drawings of the USS Monitor" as free download. John. |

Know you took the summer off and hope you really enjoyed it. Looking forward to you blowing the dust off and resuming the build after you've had a chance to catch your breath.

Starting on the Turret
Time to finally resume my 1/100 USS Monitor! It has been looking rather forlorn, without a turret.
I have just finished the two Dahlgren guns, with their carriages and rails. The port hatches I'm leaving open, to provide access to the crew compartment below. I am also working on the turret's railroad iron roof, but no photo, until there's more to look at. I also did the pilothouse, anchor and prop well covers, and some hatches.

Hope you are still around, despite the long wait. I didn't expect to take two summers off -- as well as the time between them. [We returned earlier this month from two months in France, like last year.] I also took a slight detour from paper modeling, and started a 1/30 scale model of the Monitor's turret, using a piece of 8" PVC pipe as a starting point. My hard copy of Capt. Peterkins "Drawings of the USS Monitor" have been very helpful, as well photos of the turret from the Mariners' Museum, and NOAA's Monitor National Marine Sanctuary 3D scan of the turret you can explore yourself: https://sketchfab.com/models/51c24ab...20767dfc892aea If you haven't seen that, definitely check it out! |
