The Sun Deck has been finished - all the cowls and guy wires are in place. I had to relocate some of the wires, though, as not to collide with the cowls.

Beautiful done, gives the model that extra look, also the bronze whistles on the funnels !!!!!
Your thread here is very usable as a manual for also building the model ! John. |

The lifeboats constitute a tough nut. I want to have them more boat-shape, so I had to look for more refined versions in my kits and constructed models. I had a final selection of four types, scaled them into a 2:1 version, provided a plank structure and built them as a try-out. I used boats from Wilhelm Gustloff, Batory, Stefan Batory and Cap Arcona. Cap Arcona´s one was too bulky, Batory´s one had a nice pattern but the shape was flat as it was the only one that was formed from one piece. All the others had to be assembled from three pieces to make a belly-shape possible. I finally settled for the lifeboat from Stefan Batory in Mauretania-size. The davids and gear are nicely shown in the pics. For those who want to build the ship, make sure to change the position of davids nos. 6 and 7 a bit outwards so they fit on the outer shell plating. Otherwise the spot where they are attached and the hole drilled in the deck for the david are uneven. Also important: make sure that the distances between davids 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 are even, regardless of the markings. You may have to shift them a bit aftwards. The space is 39 mm between the set and 9 mm in between. The size of the boat is 35 mm as suggested by the constructor.

If you have not yet made the final decision on which life boat to use, you might look at the Fiddlers Green whale boat. You would have to greatly reduce it, but it has good detail. I am currently trying to reduce it to 1/100 scale to use in a diorama that I am working on. It has a four piece outer hull, and a four piece inner hull, so it will be a nail biter.

How did you do the railings? Are they laser cuts?

RMS Mauretania Cunard Liner in 1:250 Scale
Hi Hanseat,
What a remarkable and super-detailed RMS Mauretania build. The forecastle (forc'sul) is staggering in it's detail. And the ventilators are simply amazing, very realistic and adds plenty of life to the model. I imagine the rigging will also be a major undertaking? Best of luck with the continued work and thanks for sharing! All the best from Stockholm, Bengt |

Not much leaves to be done: some deck chairs, railing on Boat Deck, the four cranes and the masts plus booms, rigging and ratlines. That shouldn´t be insurmountable. I practised nice ratlines with Great Eastern and the results were great. When the Boat Deck is finished I will show more pics.
