Beckychestney: to tell you the truth, I have no idea how fast these vessels were. Don't expect too much. Speed was no issue in those days. Loading capacity was what it was all about...

This little Dutch 17th century Smalschip model is absolutely beautiful! I really like the way the flags and pennants are bulging and fluttering in the wind - very life-like and realistic. You are a great artist, as well as modeler, with a keen eye.

And I totally agree in the other modeler's praise, it is so interesting to learn some new things on maritime history and shipbuilding, especially (in my view) during the interesting 16th to 18th century period, when ships looked like ships!

It is clean and with stupid colours. Sure it isn't a kit. That was my 3-rd, or 4-th one made from scratch.

Well... it was to be a "tjalk", but I'm not sure what it is now:-))). According to the sketches the line of the bow should be curved further back. I didn't make any support to force this curve, hope I made it only by giving correct shape to the planks, but it went too vertically. Planks in front should be similar to the stern part.

Well, actually the tjalk was a younger relative of the smal- and wijdschip.
