The weather has not been very appropriate for model building lately, but I managed to finished the kaag anyway.
First here is another Van de Velde pen painting with a kaag prominently on the fore ground, showing how people were brought ashore from ships that arrived on the roadstead.

There were kaags in different sizes and types, but my model depicts a small one, lowering its main sail. I like making these small boats along with the bigger ones, all in the same scale of course, as it gives a good image of the relative sizes of the vessels.
I promis I will come back with better pictures once my son has found the time…

In the mean time I started out on the next one, a little bit bigger. It is a galliot (-galjoot- in Dutch), a coaster, which, like the kaag, was built in different sizes. Witsen gives a contract for a ship of 84 feet long in his book, but this one is only 65. It is known that Van de Velde sailed along with the Dutch battle fleet in the second Anglo-Dutch war as an embedded journalist in a small galliot, much like this one.

The model is ready to be planked.

Thank you Elliott and Don Boose with your always encouraging comments.
And Tomek, I don't see many problems in your command of the English language, but you sure know how to flatter.:-)
