Costal and Riverine Soviet Vessels
Dear All:
I like interesting yet obscure subjects in modeling including the costal, riverine and amphibious vessels. Such is the case of this Armored Boat 1124 these vessels fought more often tanks than other vessels. This is a very simple 1/400 mostly from scratch with borrowed parts, in particular the T-34 76mm turrets. The fuzzy picture with the scissors is just to provide scale (and it was late). I am also posting some pictures in “The Armory” Soviet Armor Boat for RiverineWarfare I hope you enjoy it. Happy modeling! Pablo Ps I know this may be crude compared to the rest of the post but I hope nobody is offended. |

Who's offended? This is great stuff - a Soviet vessel type that I certainly didn't know of (not that I'm an expert on anything Soviet). Not only that but a small ship that battled tanks of all things, and was armed with T-34 turrets to boot. I couldn't make this stuff up if I I tried. Do you have templates you could post?

Dear Elliott:
They used two designs the 1124 with two turrets and the 1125 with one T-34 75 mm, and for a more seaworthy costal a slightly larger one with T-34 85mm. The use of turrets lived on for river monitors in Russia, Romania, and North Korea (the later costal). I will try to do a template in 1/200 to share. Dear All:
This is a Type D armored boat in 1/400 by "bestpapermodels.com" (as I mentioned lately unresponsive). The boatswere active with the Dnieper Flotilla in the Russian Civil War and then in WWII. Happy modeling! Pablo Quote:

This just a sample of the flotilla, I would love to do the larger monitors.

Model in 1/200
Quote:
Please find attached the model in 1/200. I thought it would be more appealing for my fellows. The model was designed following Dicta Bruno, using only MS drawing tolls, in my case PowerPoint and Paint, so it is a mix of vector and raster. The formers are "a la JSC" and with no spine (as in a fish). I have not tested this version but the bow is to be glued externally and trimmed later. For the stern, it needs to be score and cut following the salient upper deck, and then pushed to create two levels, then inserting the walls for the side of the salient of the upper deck. Templates are provided for the wires needed for the guns and masts (yes, it is OK to use wire and paper). I hope you enjoy the model, and if someone wants to improve it or vectorize, feel welcome. Happy modeling, Pablo |

Thank you Pablo for going to the trouble of making a template so we could enjoy the model ourselves.

Thank you Elliott and Paperengineer:
You are welcome! I try to standardize my collection to 1/400, and I feel dirty if I betray my scale. But I understand that many modelers prefer a larger scale for a small subject. Happy modeling. Pablo ps: and a sad day for la Liberte, la Egalite, et la Fraternite |
