i tried a lot of things
trying to find something i could use as nails
i had to make some "adjustments" in my framing because when i went to fit the planks the framing would not allow them to sit correctly |

paint hides
all "adjustments'
the cardboard planks can be shaped just like wood but without having to heat them over a fire |

thanks
i like taking the pictures
here we start to mount the whales, remembering that a lot of planking will be left "open" so the inside of the ship can be viewed |

doing planking
is fun, it makes you feel like something is getting accomplished
checking, after putting them on, that the planks are coming out where the plan says they should be even with good plans there is a lot of "by eye" work getting the planks to run smooth |

by eye work
you hold it up and look at it
you can see that my boats go through a lot of paint, patch, sand, paint cycles sometimes i can only see problems after the parts have been painted |

further progress
on the boat
we add the 2 blue strakes above the whales and then its time to start disassembling the jig |

we remove it
one piece at a time
we add the heavy planks next to the keel beveling the edge so they will fit into the slot cut in the keel |

planks are fun
most of the time
i always have trouble keeping them from bending down around the ribs the bottom planks will only cover the bildges, as i want to show the nicely details holds and decks inside the boat |

i'm not sure i agree
now with my decisions of where to end off the planking
as i work around the hull, i use a little piece of card to transfer the widths of the next plank as usually, after the planks are applied they are sanded down to smooth out their bumps |
