First US Navy Lexington, Shipyard, 1:96
Hi all,
Starting up a new project. The first of 6 ships named Lexington in the US Navy. The fit of parts is excellent. The instructions are very brief. "Build using the pieces in their numerical order." So far it's working. Here are pieces 1-34. Tried to copy the history from the model but there is a light flash. It's mostly readable. Very enjoyable model so far. cheers Jim |

Hi Jim. Good to see you with another ship build again. High quality work as is your norm. Already looking forward to seeing you work your magic on this one.

paper guns
very realistic guns at all scales can be made from paper
as far as i know, shipyard models come with paper guns, and with paper blocks they now offer models with laser cut frames and wooden blocks (although paper blocks also work well), but i don't know if they offer brass guns |

I don't know if I have the skill to make paper barrels, possibly the carriages. I didn't see any brass barrels (from GPM). they are available somewhere. The laser cut is very good. It includes blocks and deadeyes. Here are some more pics. I am up to part 42, the keel. I have laminated it as it seems not wide enough with just the pieces provided. The parts fit well, only some slight trimming. Probably my fault anyway. cheers Jim |

Great looking build, will follow it with interest as I have just received the full kit of HMS Albert, and that does have brass cannons with card carriages. Can't wait to get started.

A little progress on the Lexington. I am up to part 71.
Building in the order of the part numbers really works. The first 5 pics are the cat-heads which are quite a fabrication project in themselves. Many layers. Fortunately the white colored pieces are part of the laser cut kit. The next 5 are the railings and some of the filigree around the bow. cheers Jim |
