Usually in time of war the name or hull number of a ship was painted over to avoid tipping off the enemy as to which ship they were seeing. I'm guessing that was the effect the designer was going for. For a hospital ship that was a non-combatant it wouldn't matter.

Hello Fred, I have just looked in a book "Liners in Battledress" by David Williams and I found a photo of Mauretania in dazzle painting (as you chose). The letters are invisible - page 63.
Anyway, the black letters that you cut out are so neat! I am very impressed!

Go on with the promenade deck:
And the front superstructure: The first railing is cut out the laser parts and painted grey: And placed on the promenade deck. I have to do it now because it won't be possible with the topdeck glued on. And some drilling in the top deck. The holes are for the davids. Fred

Exceptionally precise work on the railings!
Fascinating discussion (and excellent craftsmanship) on the name letters. Don |

O no...problem....
This piece I glued on the ship following the dazzle scheme: As I fit the deck there was a gap by number 46: Of 3 mm ( 0.11 inches) The question is of the dazzle scheme fits in the next deck. So I cut out the pieces and started dry fitting: With the piece of the hospitalship you can see the difference: OK! Wrong.... So, cut off this pieces and I will make new ones when I need them Meanwhile the deck is glued on and 82 little poles where glued on Fred

I started with the after superstructure:
On that spot i need to place an air shaft : But that wil be very difficult when the deck is in place, so I made it right now: 32 little holes in the deck: To place this little poles; But first finish the deck: Fred
