CSS Virginia - Green Hull
Hi All,
I'm to the point I'm ready (I think) to get the CSS Virginia's hull put together. I was inspired by Dan"s awesome job on his. My model has a green hull and his has a red hull. I've done some research on trying to determine if maybe the Merrimac's hull was green and then was painted red later, but I can't find any information regarding the hull color. Anyone have any ideas? Just curious - I actually like the green as it's different from everything else I've seen, just curious as to the reason. thanks, chris |

Looks like a great start, Chris...Not sure about the green unless it was protective in some way? Folks here likely know a lot about ships...we should get an answer soon!
Keep her coming...Dan |

Thanks Heinkel! I like the green - it's certainly different. Now that I know its intended to represent corrosion it will make it unique among all of the other Heinkel ironclads I'm building. Wonderful job on the design.
Out of curiosity, how thick is the chipboard I should be using? I built the hull frame out of 1mm chipboard and it's so sturdy I'm having a bear of a time getting the hull pieces to fit. Really enjoying this model on the back of getting the Monitor done. |

Ok. All my designs have 1mm and 0.5mm formers. is correct 1mm for this model.
In this boat I have seen mainly two versions of colors and the cut line of water. Your version in green the line of water cut is lower. I will include the two versions in Ecardmodels. |
