Sorry I haven't made any build posts for a week or two. The real world has pushed model building to one side. Unbelievably busy at work. On a positive note my spare room is now an office / study / hobby room / shipyard. Sd-14s are too big to live on the dining table.

I'll try to post some pic's of recent progress this weekend.

I am new to this forum but totally fascinated by your built. This is more than a usual paper model - It looks like building a ship on a shipyard step by step and you are doing very well!

Don`t hurry, hast is sometimes the enemy of best results. Real life, which means family and job in my case, do keep me away from building sometimes for weeks but I enjoy every moment I really can concentrate myself on a paper model.

Hi Matt, making good progress I left the inside of mine unpainted as I did like the look of the card finish.
You have more luck with your search to find pictures of the engine room and bridge I came up with very little so just had to guess how the bridge looked hopefully be taking mine along to the Milton Keynes model show on 24 April So if you're free pop along.

Sorry for the hiatus. Work has begun again.
I've made a start on the Mid section, almost 37 inches long.

The centre line keelson, bottom plates and double bottom longitudinals are ready to be laid down.

The mid section of real thing only had a floor plate between every fourth frame, the model has one at every frame. I'm considering following the one in four of the prototype.

Some progres, nothing is glued yet I'm just laying parts out.



Plate floors are vertical plates of steel, cut to the shape of the floor and lightened by cutting elliptical or round holes from the middle areas.

Solid floors are plate floors without lightening holes. They are fitted at the ends of the double bottom tanks.

Bracket floors are lighter than plate floors and are built with a bracket at the bilge and another at the centre line and these are joined at the top and bottom by angle bars with vertical struts.

All the floors in the kit are solid. So far I've cut holes where appropriate to make plate floors. I'm trying out some ideas for constructing the bracket floors which the real ship has between the plate floors in the mid section.
