1/72 Shipyard Schooner Berbice 1780
The start of a new card project. I chose a American Schooner from 1780.
I have built several of Shipyards laser cut kits. After which, I was spoiled by the hard work being done for you and you pretty much assemble and paint. Anyone who has built one of these types of kit, knows they are worth what they cost. So without any further ado......an American Schooner. Rick😎 |

I've been hoping someone would record a Shipyard laser kit build...and here you are. Good news on top this, for US papercats, is that a dealer for Shipyard is in, I think, California. Ages of Sail.

Good luck with the build. I didn't know that a completely laser cut kit existed.
Are the features still printed or does everything get painted? cheers Jim |

Glad to see you reply. The kit comes with everything one needs to build. All parts are laser cut that includes the frame and the complete exterior of the vessel. You are given a gouse type paint (like oil paint) that is water based. They even included 2 nice paint brushes. This allows you the builder to paint the boat in the appropriate colors. What's cool about the paint, it can be thinned so that line/print details show thru. Takes a little bit of practice, but it's like paint in 3D oil with all the printed details of a card model. Mast is wood dowels, all rigging lines included and the best turned brass cannon barrels I have ever seen. With this kit you also get a roll of copper tape for the hull. A very complete with all needed materials. Cheap, no! But you do get your money's worth. I will post some photos of the kit later this evening. Rick😎 |
