and now

first making some matresses from bakeable clay tight fit to get them into the bunks then starting a "sleeping man" skeleton and adding first legs, then feet think i'll try having his arms be outside the "blanket" i'll make to cover him |

Don't you think twisted wire for a skeleton is an easier option, Ken?

i tried wire
but i can't seem to get the smaller proportions correct
with the paper for example, i get a forehead and a chin on the skull and i get better articulation on things like arm and leg joints |

more adventures
with figures
when you put the clay in the oven and bake 5 minutes at 450 instead of 200, you get an african sailor so i started again i have to admit, i like making the skeletons and also we start a table, for the cook, since we are working on the galley we add a head and shoulders to our new sailor and try on his blanket... finish him with a head of hair and put him to bed in his bunk |

planks and paint
that's how we roll
glue down the false deck cut out the plan to be able to plot the locations of the holes for the cannons roll a jig the right size for the diameter of the holes check against the plan for the cannons start the holes with the knife test with the jig use a file to finish the holes to size the jig lets us not only test the size of the hole but its orientation |

just one hole
after another
i should say, before gluing down the false deck i had to do some major readjustment of the deck beams to get them to line up better... paper is such a forgiving medium i added a water way, i cheated and the deck planks are not really inset into it i went in search of more reference for the interior... since trying to puzzle it out just from the plans was making my head hurt a coat of paint... and next we have to plank the inside of the bulwarks |

I didn't realize how large this model was until I saw it sitting on your leg. This is going to be truly impressive when finished.
