The Schreiber-Bögen kits are my favorite, they can be customized and the instructions are good.
Polish kits may be more detailed, but they are for experts, since the instructions are practically non-existent

i find schreiber are very simple to build but look good when done.as you say lots of scope for your own finishing touches

Hello again and thank you very much to everyone.
I come from naval modeling in wood, but for health reasons I have gone to paper.
The Schreiber-Bögen kits are indeed simple, but they allow customization and creativity, which reminds me of my previous modeling way.
I put a photo of a model made by me in wood (only one, I promise).
This is the St Roch, 1/72 totally scracht, but based on plans of Billing Boats
The oval funnel is made with the handle of a duster to remove dust, heated to the fire
The manufacture of this boat, took me 5 months, both for the construction and for looking for documentation.
Paper modeling is much faster.
Now I'm making a tug

A beautiful model of the St. Roch. Those of my generation remember reading of the St. Roch in history class, and how it made us proud to know that the first ship through the arctic was a Canadian ship manned by Mounties. This ship would be a great project to do in paper card; pity one is not available. Still, your model is another fine model. Thanks for the photo.

This model was a lot of work, especially for the collection of documentation, based on photographs of the actual ship that is exhibited at the Ottawa Museum; Canada.
Take a dog sled to spare, since I did and it was small and then I made another.
In the end I put both
The St Roch made the Northwest Passage in both directions, but the first to do it East-West was to the Gjoa, under the command of Amundsen 1903-1906
