Briefly, advancing the ship. There are a lot of part that aren't well explained in the instructions, as the bow for example. Its a big bowl with a smaller, eight-shaped bowl aft and a cilinder in top of the smaller bowl.
There are a lot of "74 pieces", being the boxes of extra ammunition. But there are some of them that are indicated but not specified, like the four ones over the "B" turret.

As I said, I'm custom making the funnel. And starting with the 5' secondary guns

I'm placing all the platforms aft and around the funnel, same as the main deck equipment. As now, the ship has very few unpainted surfaces.
My usual way to work is to place the platforms and levels, and later start to fill them with machinary. This time I need to change that, assembling full subsections and gluying them in site later.
I'm a bit worried with the space right aft the funnel, where the sections 9 goes. Not only the instructions are sketchy, the pictures are too, and there was a remodelation of the ship that changed this section, including a third crane and more 5 inch guns.
No, no, no, the crane existed during the shakedown trials on 1942, and were on both sides... it means that my paper model is based on the ship as was on August 1943. Not Guadalcanal but Marshall Islands and a lot of heavy action.
I learned the name of the hull trench, is called... hull slot. ok!

The bow is a curious thing. Have you found out what it is yet?

Been hearing about Venezuela's troubles. How are you doing Alejandro? You OK?

Hi, Elliot

Seen this picture:
USS South Dakota (BB-57) Battleship Image
seems that the bow includes one quad 40mm Bofors (front), two machine guns (sides) and one unspicified gun director (the tall cilinder)

About Venezuela, how to say it? I wrote (and erased) a very long response detailing all the things that I have personally seen, but I realized that there was the risk that I would be jailed just by writing that.

This weekend was a weekend of changes.
First, when I came home I found that a storm had blow the ship to the floor, and then a puddle of water came under it.
At first I believed that there was no damage, but taking this pictures discovered (picture 85) that the rear port side of the hull was heavily warped. I'll fix it the next weekend.
Another change was that at midday, the difference in color between the South Dakota and the deck of the Enterprise was notorious (picture 82). To fix it, I grayed the color. I believed to have made the 20-B color right, but I usually painted with artificial light. Now, having repainted the ship with the new color, the similarity is clear.
I glued the "9" parts (between the main superstructure and the funnel, both sides) and the eight 5 inch guns.
Once I'll rebuild the warped hull, I'll finish the 5 inch guns and continue placing the different platforms around the rear tower (or wathever is named).

Ok, now with a few more time to explain.
As I said, I made the propeller shafts. Remember that the South Dakota class was the only one that had the skegs supporting the outer propellers, and that I had to rework my paper model.
After this pictures I started to place the four boats and the range finders. I'll probably need to start placing machine guns, because the space between the superstructure levels is too small at this scale (and with this model) to let me place them later.
I finished the funnel, the real ship had 6 longitudinal rods covering the top, the original paper model had 4 perpendicular walls. Due to the small scale, I placed 4 longitudinal rods made with sewing thread.

Good News!!!!
I have a new camera! I had photographer deprivation :-)
The difference in detail of the pictures is great. :-)
Advances? The boats are placed, the catapults are made, the gun directors placed and painted, the anchor chains are repainted.
I placed the BB-57 and the BB-63 side to side. There are similitudes but differences too. The South Dakota is cramped with machine guns, the Missouri had them more spacied. SD had less lifeboats, you could not take a walk on Mighty Mo without bumping with one.
A lot of details to do, a lot of details...
