ORP Orzeł (291) - Answer 1/2009

Hello again.

Today I want to show you my favorite model in my collection. It is a Polish Navy 'Project 877E' (Kilo-class) submarine - ORP Orzeł (291) which is currently in service. This model was built by me in 2014. Enjoy

Hi,

That is an incredible build! How you can get the bow to be so perfect is a complete mystery to me.

Thanks,

Greg

Beautiful. Definitely a POTW candidate. I agree, the bow is a work of art.

Thanks for a good words

Shortly about the bow:
The nose of this submarine were formed using Brand Clear Glue (BCG), which make paper more flexible. This is water based glue.
I put this glue on the whole surface on the inner side of the part and then when it starts to be flexible I started forming the part using ball shown on attached pictures. You can use also different things with a shape similar to the ball. You just need to have a bit soft stand as a base under this part.
Once just formed part becomes dry it should shows slightly curved shape, see attached picture.
Such formed parts were put together step by step.

So just try to work with a bit wet piece of paper so you will see how it works.

That's an interesting technique for compound curves. Wonderful build!
