In the meantime I have been working on the superstructure for the kobaya. I will do the corrections for the ship hull a little later.

This is the basic form.

I have also added the Samurai clan flags (sashimono).

And for the lazy there is an easy version of the framework without the cutouts. Also might be easier for placing minis while gaming. And I have added some optional metal braces which I have seen on pictures of the bigger boats.

And finally a little "action" shot: boats on the horizon :-)

Outstanding!

I can hear the drums and flutes of the hayashi as the boats approach.

Time to get things dirty!

I adapted the interior of the hull, after I learnt that the Japanese did not use frames.

Also added that front bow transvers structure. I am guessing this is used for anchoring or towing the boat?

The easy build of the super structure comes together so fast :-)

But this version looks so much better, right? The full pointed bow kobaya!

But for gaming the easy deck will be more usefull I guess.

Also water, algae and clams had their effect on the water line!

Hope you like it so far. I am very happy with the progress so far and cannot wait how the big boat will turn out.

Thanks for all the feedback. I corrected it all best I could.

Chris

You're doing an excellent job Chris. Watching the boats develop has been an education in itself. With Clare's help you're turning out another first-class set of models.

Clare's info was very helpful. He shone light on areas I could not make sense of with the material I found! I am actually adapting the stern section of the big boats right now to the feedback I got.

The aesthetic appeal of these is getting close to going off the chart.
Been a very long time since I've used paper models in gaming. Not sure what word to pin on it but they have a whole different presence about them than do chunks of resin.

I love resin models for their obvious qualities. But you cannot beat modular paper model terrain or vehicles if you want to build an affordable village/fleet fast. Of course the downside is, YOU have to build it

I am hoping that the ease of build and texture quality of my paper models will be attractive enough to convince one or the other to give it a try!

Very interesting small boats. I think that your designed boat also from wood will be really nice.
