Evarts class DDE Again

This was first posted at the time when the site crashed, so here is an abbreviated posting. The Evarts class was the first of the destroyer escorts. This model is the USS Engstom DDE 50. There wasn't anything particularly distinguishing about her other than an easy measure 22 color scheme.

after 28mm and 3" mounts, some of the little detail, rangefinder whale boat and davits, and 20 mm aaa. All in 1/400 scale...

Here are the real teeth, the depth charge racks k gun launchers and the fwd hedgehog throwers, oh and also the 3" guns and the old Chicago piano 28mm or 1.1 inch aa gun...

Like ripley in alien resurrection there were a few false starts. The grey and black camo version was a complete by hand scratch build from nearly a decade ago, using nothing but the 2 view drawings from squadron signal DDE in action and rulers.

All done, instructions are forth coming, or maybe fifth, who knows? I want to catch up on these instructions and the Wichita's instructions so I can move on. I have been agonizing on the next project. I have so many conflicting/incomplete details of the Texas, that I'm still trying to nail down a version. I almost decided on the 1914-1918 version, but I am still hung up on the before the storm theme. The 1935 pre radar version is the front runner now, but oddly I have more plans and details of 1944 and 45 version, plus my son just arrived in Houston to start his 3rd year of medical school rotations. I am sure he can snap any pics I may need.

It's my own design. The plan is to model the lesser modeled WW2 subjects. We have a dozen models of Bismarck and Yamato out there. No Hosho or Wichita or Kashima class or Evarts class. My short list is Langley, Ranger, one of the APD? conversions of the DDEs, Baltimore class, one of the Kaiyo class of Japanese escort carriers, maybe Ryujo and Soryu. I have some prelim drawings of USS Texas and ideas of attacking the unique hull design, but that is still in the planning stage.
