Thanks Elliot. Here are pics taken on Jul 25, 2017. More ribs.
I just made the template smaller for each rib section.

It is not too noticeable in the pics but the rib spacing is not constant.
The central 6 ribs are all the same so they have no taper. They are centered on the station line.
The others taper toward the ends of the ship so they are offset so that they have the edge closest to the ship center on the station line.
The idea is to sand the balsa outward toward the next rib so that the inner edges are preserved.
cheers Jim

These are pics from Sep 19.
More ribs. The stern ribs and starting to shape them to the contour.
cheers Jim

Here are some pics from Nov 7, 2017. Note in the previous that the top is flat.
This is not the deck, just the #7 level contour.
In these the actual deck is being built. It of course it curves up at both ends.
Also some more shaping of the ribs by sanding.
cheers Jim

It's nice to see you resume updates and photos of your "Joseph Conrad".
Scratch builds can be difficult, but worth it.

Thanks Mike you give me courage.
The big difficulty I am finding is going from the drawings and pictures to the 3d result.
Take the first pic of the actual ship. There is a rounded surface at the top and a
pointed surface below it but they seem to come out of a single surface aft.
I can't visualize how the steel skin is going to be able to do that.
I hope that it works out in practice.
Anyway here are the pics from Jan 9 of making a frame for the after deck.
cheers Jim

Some more pictures from Jan 13.
The blue paint is the "Steel" deck. The wooden deck is on top of that but doesn't
go to the edge and that forms a channel which is the waterway.
Also starting to plate the hull starting with the transom.
cheers Jim

That's a clever method of forming the waterway. Looking at the last picture, have you put blocks of balsa, or another wood, in between the ribs?

Actually they are additional ribs.
The plans added additional section lines near the bow and stern.
I assume to account for the extra curvature in those areas.

The next batch of pics is from Jan 16. Putting on the main deck planking
I am using the masts as location pegs.
They look too small but that is because on the real ship they are steel.
cheers Jim

Beginning to put on the "steel" plates. They are six feet wide on scale.
My eyeball estimate from the pictures.
These bulwarks end at the companionway. There will be a wooden vertical finish piece.
Pics from Feb 6
cheers Jim

More work on the after bulwarks. There will be a rail on top later.
The wood piece is a bench in some places and a pin-rail elsewhere.
I am trying to put in the rib extensions in paper.

The pictures are from Feb26 and also one of Kent's pictures to show the rails.
Cheers Jim
