Some cleaning up aft and a beginning at the bow.
Pictures from Mar 10.
The area under the bow deck is busy as shown in a shot of the plans.
There were toilets on both sides, probably of the "direct deposit" type considering
the time frame of the 1800's. These are now storage spaces.
I don't know what replaced them as visitors are not allowed below the main deck,
at least the day I visited. One of Kent's photos is included to show what I am attempting.
At last some card in the model !
cheers Jim

The main deck is looking very good Jim. Neat, clean & straight. I'm with you; there's some card in the model. Yay!

Thanks Elliott. Some more pictures from Mar 15.
The bow deck in the real ship is supported by steel beams, not available for the model.
The only structure I have is the partitions of the closets and the skin, coming later.
I added the inside walls to add a little structure even though they will not be visible.
Also the "steel" foot support for the bowsprit, which is timber.
And I painted the stern rail to hide print on on the card.
cheers Jim

Pictures from Mar 17.
The roughed out bowsprit and part of the prow. The "steel" structure at the foot of the bowsprit is attached and the bowsprit is installed.

Some small progress. Pics from Mar 20.
Behind the bowsprit there is a watertight bulkhead which is kind of visible looking from the main deck.
Also the bowsprit needs a little reinforcement to prevent rotating, the small wood piece.
At the back there is a steel beam under the deck. I will add the uprights when the skin is on.
Finally the front skin, trying to find a way to wrap it.
cheers Jim

pics from Mar 21.
After a lot of experiments the front upper skin is on the starboard side.
This was the most scary part of the design for me and I am very glad to get past it.
The vertical size of the "steel" plate is 10 feet. I think a shipyard could manage that.
cheers Jim

pics from Mar 23.
Some more of the bulwarks and the water drain ports.
I think I made a mistake and they are in the wrong place.
The ship could probably use a couple extras anyway.
cheers Jim

In heavy seas I imagine a couple extra water drain ports would be more than welcome.

Yes Elliott I agree. I have added the ports in the right place giving two per side.
Pictures from Mar 27. Catching up to reality.
Detailing the central portion of the bulwarks and the entry openings with stairs.
Also a small section of the top rail. Sorry about the fuzzy pictures.
cheers Jim

Pics from March 31.
There is a winch under the front deck that handles the anchor chains.
Here I am attempting to model it. There are 3 thicknesses of 2 mm card as a frame.
Over that is regular card and some pieces left over from the past.
cheers Jim
PS Apologies, After upload I jnoticed that I forgot to rescale the pics to reduce the size.
