Backing out the experiment.
Now all of the under strips are on.
Almost finished the plating.

In the last pic the hull looks symmetrical from here Jim. You've done a remarkable job on it. Looking forward to pics of the completely plated hull.

Thanks Elliott. It came out reasonably symmetrical.
Now comes paint but first a waterline. I am building a cradle to hold it level and maybe
be a prototype for a display cradle.

Oh boy, I am in trouble.
I knocked up a cradle to hold the model level so as to put on a waterline and that went OK.
In the painting I made 2 rookie mistakes.
I used masking tape for masking. Everybody knows you have to use blue painters tape.
It left a sticky residue and I have no idea how to remove it. It also tore the paper in spots.
Second mistake was using acrilic paint directly on the paper, forgetting that it is water based.
The paper expands and wrinkles leaving ugly dents.
The result looks OK from a distance but not up close.
My camers is having trouble keeping the colors correct.
The picture of the bottom paint on the bow is closest.

If anybody knows how to remove masking tape sticky glue please step up.

Maybe scraping it carefully with a scalpel? I usually use goo gone but on paper that probably would spell disaster!

Thanks Doug. I agree about using anything with a liquid base.
Scraping with a sharp knife actually sort of worked.
Maybe things are not as bad as I thought.
After getting as much of the glue residue off as I could I put on 2 coats of enamel.
Maybe with a lot of sanding it can be recovered.

The old wooden sailing vessels would have several coats of paint on them, so it wouldn't be unusual to see the outline of a previous layer under the fresh coat.

hi all
Well maybe it isn't so bad after all. Some more of the glue residue came off while

sanding the gray paint. Some touch-up will be required but there is hope.

hi friends,
Things are looking up with the paint. I am no painter. That's why I like paper models.
A little bit of touch-up is needed and two black lines: one between the white and black
and a shorter one from the main rail to the bowsprit.
The actual ship does not match the plans very well. Ships evolve.
The plans show a black line by the bowsprit while the ship has a white line.
I chose to follow the plans.
