Nordlys scale 1:250

It's bin a while that I made a topic here, a lot has happened in my life.
My father, and friend, past away at 81 years old.

That was a very sad time for me.

But I started building again en made a small tug, Saturn, scale 1:250.

And now I started a new project Nordlys in scale 1:250.
Not a famous ship so why this ship?
In 2013 we had our holiday in Norway at the Geiranger fjord.
This ship we have seen there and I toke a lot of pictures

( Picture made by me )

My wife liked this ship and she asked me to build it, and who denied his wife
I found an old plan from Wilhelmshavener modellbaubogen.

Want to now more of this ship, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Nordlys_(1994)

And draw the lines at the other site:

And glue it together:

Hi Fred

I built this model a few years ago and it turns out really nicely. I travelled on her sister the Nordnorge from Bergen to Kirkenes a few years ago and we took a diversion up Gieranger Fjord.

I can't remember too many problems with the build but if you get stuck feel free to ask questions or request pictures.

FYI this model was designed by the German designer Peter Brandt who went on to work for HMV and has produced some great models. This one was designed before he started using CAD tools.

Best wishes

David

Thanks David for your replay. I didn't know who the designer was so now I know.
If I find any problem I let you know

I glued the ribs on the bottom, that was the easy part.
Next I have to place the first deck on the back site of the ship.
After placing these decks there will be no more space to place the bollards and winces, so first make them.

Lots of little pieces....

bollards and winces on the deck:

As you can see, not many place left there:

And I also made a start at the front deck:

The first deck cut out:

The railing are also printed at the deck, I cut them of and replace them later with laser cut railings:

The deck on the ship:

And glued the ribs at the deck:

And a start at the deck house at the front of the ship:

Last Saturday the wether was very bad over here, so I had a hole day for modeling

I made a start withe the skin, cut them out and cut of the railings:

On the skin is not the word Hurtigruten. Why it's not on the skin I don't know but I want it! So I toke one of my pictures and rescale the word, printed it and cut it out:

Hmmmmm, don't like it......So I printed it a few time's, glue it on white paper without glue under the letters:

Very carefully cut out the first letter:

And placed it on the skin, you can see the difference

So.....cut out a lot of letters

glue them very carefully on the skin:

I like it!!

It toke me 6,5 hours to make the 2 words

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father, who was only a little older than me.

But the models you are building are excellent and a good way to remember.

I really liked the little tug, Saturn, and the liner is up to your usual quality of superb craftsmanship.

Thanks for all the images of the work in progress.

Don

So:

That's a lot better

It toke me 3 days to glue the skin on the hull:

So far, so good:
