1/6250 Battle of the Nile
Inspired by a side project of warartisan's that included the use of "2.5D" models in playtesting some wargame rules, and frustrated at how long it will take me to build a proper 3D fleet, I decided to try my hand at some for the Battle of the Nile.
I have GMT Games' Flying Colors, which handles Age of Sail fleet battles, and I set up for the Battle of the Nile. Here we have the setup. The middle shot shows poor HMS Culloden grounded. She would have to watch the battle from a distance. Doug |

Ah yes, the fog of war where things can not be perceived.

For your trouble, the next two show the massive 120 gun French ship L'Orient, the center of the French line. Trust me, it looks bigger than the 74s...

Nice set up with the 2.5D ships.
I have a SPI game from the 1970's called Frigate that has the Battle of the Nile as one of the scenarios. The playing pieces are just flat squares with some information about the ship type printed on them.

I then set up the battle at its height. The first three images show the doubling of the French fleet's van. The last one shows the action around L'Orient. HMS Bellerophon is shown on the far broadside of L'Orient. A 74 gun ship, she took extensive damage in the battle. L'Orient caught fire and exploded. For those not read up on it, the British fleet engaged near sundown, but I thought pictures of darkness would not be very entertaining.
