Polish river Monitor ORP Torun 1939

This this is the only existing film showing Polish river monitor ORP Torun.
Now about history of the vessel. ORP Torun was build in Free City of Danzig for Polish Navy

together with three sister river ships. ORP Warszawa, ORP Horodyszcze and ORP Pinsk in 1920.
At beginning has been armed in two 105 mm guns and five machine guns. In 1924 ship has been modernized and armed in two 75 mm gun and one hovitzer 100 mm. In 1938 warship was modernized again. Armed in three 75 mm guns and four machine guns able to anti-aircraft fire. In order to reduce draft of the ship on sides was montaged special pontoons.

Where in first September 1939 Germany attacked Poland ORP Toruń was present on Pinsk river together with other vessels of Pinsk River fleet.

ORP Torun didn’t participate with fight against German because German army didn’t approached Pinsk River. When in 17 October Red Army attacked Poland ORP Torun was sunk by their own crew in order to avoid capture.

05-10-1939 ORP Torun was raised from bottom by Russian, included into Soviet Navy and renamed Winnica. (The film is from this period. You can see Soviet seamen on this waship) Ship was modernized again and remed into three 76 mm guns and two anti anti-aircraft 12 mm heavy machine guns and four 7,62 Maxim machine guns.
When in June 1941 Germany attacked Soviet Russia Winnica was present in Pinsk city. 15 July 1941 was in action the first time and supported with her guns Red Army. In this fight was six times hit. Four times by 75 mm guns and two by 37 mm guns from distance 1000 m. Four men was kild and two was heavy wounded. 16-07-1941 ship run aground and was blow up by own crew in order to avoid capture by Germans.

You're off to a great start. Thanks for the video and historical information. It's helpful to be able to place a model into its proper historical perspective.

This model will be built in scale 1:250. The model will be really small only 14 cm. I will have place for other models of ships from Polish River Fleet

I have little time last time but I make reconstruction of camouflage of ORP Toruń.

Colours has been imported from photo of Polish tankette TKS. Shape of camouflage from this video.

I still have an unbuild kit of ORP Warszawa in 1:100, the ships look very similar.

ORP Warszawa is a sister Vessel of ORP Toruń. There was four sister vessels.
