Thanks, and it's always nice to get feedback!
Here is the frame on the bow of the ship. I'm not entirely sure of the function, but my guess is it was to place more communication equipment with enough space inbetween to avoid interference?

Marco, I think your idea that the mast at the front is to give the receivers/aerials on the top sufficient space to have a clear field and operate without interference is correct.
The purpose of the ship was to track (officially) Russsian space missions. But of course, it was a tactically a mobile installation and would also have been capable of tracking any missile launches from anyone! There is a current vessel performing the same role, with another one under construction. The current vessel is shown in Photo 1 - not as impressive as the one you are modeling. I thought you may like the remaining photos of the ship you are modeling (if you have not seen them before).

Thanks - there are a lot of great photos of the ship out there.
A very interesting illustrated resource is on: A Sad Story of Yuri Gagarin Soviet Greatest Science Ship Beloved by Millions Betrayed by Ukraine | English Russia Although I very much prefer to avoid the political discussion... She's also pictured close to home, in Rotterdam (my home base is The Hague).

Because I may have to fix the antennas in place in the final model, this is the configuration I'm considering:

More details and boats on the bridge.
I have spotted a serious issue with the lasercut set this weekend: it only has enough "ribs" for one of the large dishes. And as far as I can tell it's a problem with the design, not the supplier. There are several more issues with the lasercut set... So my only option out here will be to practice my cutting skills I guess.

Thanks for the link to the article - very interesting to see all the photos.
------------------------ I think the display configuration you are thinking off looks good - it gives some "purpose" to the ship.

This ship was so awesome, even the captains yacht has 1950s style automotive tailfins. |8D
Marco, your build continues to be so impressive.

Hi Marco
This is coming on great. Really enjoying watching the progress. Found the article very interesting too. So it turns out there were 11 ships in the fleet... Regards Kevin

Thanks! And given the problems with the lasercut set, displaying her with the dishes at an angle will give me the opportunity to put some hand-cut lattice work out of sight. I've started cutting some of the missing parts, it shouldn't be a major issue, but it won't be as fine as the lasercut parts.
