Hirta, JSC, 1:250

Hello everyone, this is my first build thread on this forum. Hope you enjoy watching my build.
I chose Fishery protection vessel Hirta, JSC 297, scale 1:250. This is my all time favourite model that JSC has ever published. I love absolutely everything about this ship. She's got lovely silhouette, love the colours and she is modern, but not too modern - just right. The hull framework is almost done. Part number 7 might be a bit tricky. But if I was able to do that, everybody can do that easily too. Just read instructions first. You have to twist one of the walls of part 7 (!)
regards,
Kasia

Thumbs up

Looks like a good start. The shaping of Part 7 seems to have been successful.
Those hair clips are a real help for clamping.

Thank you for the step-by-step images and the narrative of your build, Kasia.

It is a good-looking small ship, and your build thread will be helpful to anyone who wishes to build the model.

Kasia - I actually have this one to build, so I was pleased to see a build thread come up.

You have a nice crisp build going there!

I will follow with interest!

Kasia - Kevin

Yes - I have this on board with me - unbuilt - but near the top of the pile - really looking forward to building it especially after watching your build log!

Hirta in real life

While on holiday in/on the Outer Hebrides (NW of Scotland) a few years ago we saw the Hirta leaving port at Stornoway. During that same trip we also saw the Pharos (in Oban). Colours are a bit less new, after several years at sea!

Thank you for a warm welcome
@Diderick - thanks for sharing photos. Partly on subject - we saw Eendracht in Gdynia few years ago. Went on board to visit her!!

Today edge colouring trials. Hirta is an old model, way before the times when we started doing colour overlapping placement lines for parts. I painted those places. It is absolutely optional.
I found some paints in our collection that matched printed parts colours. Dark green and red waterline was spot-on, and light green sides colour was perfect once I added 3 drops of water to make it lighter.
Deckhouse 17-20. Part 20 was a little too long, so I cut it into individual walls and cut off the excess for perfect fitting. I also built part 20 first, and then I put door 19 in the middle.

Superstructure and lasercut ladders.
I went for an option of ventilation outlets opened ( see back cover of the model kit).
Back part of superstructure, number 44 - I cut off all the tabs, I found that part to be much easier to handle without them. Finished today's build with replacing ordinary ladders with lasercut one.

P.S. Please bare in mind that I am a total beginner at building models, I am the person who usually contact our wonderful modelers, and just recently started to build models! That's why my model is a little clumsy ...

Ah - you are doing fine with the model Kasia - it is looking really good!

Rememebr the most critical person of a model is the the bulder themselves - wait until it is finished and then look at it with a fresh eye!

Your model looks very good to me, Kasia!

I look forward to seeing many more of your models after you finish this good-looking (both ship and model) patrol boat.
