Great eastern (schreiber bogen 1/200)
Hello my friends
I'm making this fascinating ship that at 1/200 scale measures !106cm! (41,73 inches) of length The details will have to be simplified, for example the flechate would measure only .001 mm, a tenth of a millimeter, just one hair! The ship was a giant of the seas 217 m in length. It was designed in 1843 by Isambard Kingdom Brunnel and launched: 31 January 1858 At the end of service she dropped the first submarine cable across the Atlantic between America and Europe. Here a few pictures, now I'm doing the masts regards Last edited by Llaut Mallorquin; 12-04-2017 at 07:12 AM. |

Hello Shipbuild
The paddle wheels were impossible to manufacture from the cut-out Nothing matched So I drew with a CAD program (Draftsight) the template and finally I could align everything. Thanks for your opinion Regards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Great_Eastern |

Congratulations. I purchased this model some time ago and lack of time and loyalty to aircraft models have kept me away from building it. It is a "one fine day" project and after seeing your fantastic rendition of this model, it encourages me to tackle it any time soon. Schreiber kits are really very good models. Excellent printing, designing and instructions. The GE is no exception. Good luck and best wishes from sunshine state.

Yes, it's a good kit but it has some flaw. The instructions are practically nonexistent, although they are useful if you study them carefully. You can save my photos to see how everything goes The kit does not envisage reinforcing the deck and the frames with cardboard something strong, that must be corrected and paste the covers and frames in a cardboard of 1 mm. This should be done (especially the deck) on a perfectly flat surface. There is a design and printing fault on the roof in the area of the 4th mast, but it can be fixed by gluing two pieces of photocopy of the deck boards in that place. The masts and rods do not correspond to the actual height of the boat. I have deduced them from photographs and I am making them out of wood The plates of living and dead work however, fit very well. The paddle wheels can be made by 3D printer or as I did, drawing a template and then sticking on the spokes and rings. Everything else fits perfectly, it's a very good kit. I hope you enjoy as I build it. |
