Hoche hull
Here the green, applied afterwards onto the hull of an old vessel. Since it was used only from late XIXth century onwards, this was not at the time of her maiden trip: by that time, the hulls were covered with sheets of copper.
And a color view of the red stuff: on most pictures, whatever could be the light around when looking at them, or taken from the web, it appears rather bright, turning to nearly orange in the Mediterranean sea, under bright sun.

Hoche hull
Others artistic views.
I don't know why the red appears so close to light orange in the foreground and deep red in the background. How did the artist make his mind? Around 1870-1880, oil paintings made by serious artists, after the real ships, show a bronze color above waterline, could be the last times when copper plates were used to cover the hull. Lately, illustrators tended to use the same color to depict the ships: Color photographs did not exist, perhaps these latter artists did not not even saw the real ships and worked after vague despictions.

Your ability to produce the right photograph at the right time is remarkable Renaud and it contributes a great deal to our ability to understand whatever issue has been raised. Thank you.

Material
I know it could be rather hard to get a valuable issue when modeling this fleet, even here in France. Since I have many things about, that makes the job easier to avoid a waste of work.
In Paris, the French Maritime Museum is closed until 2022 for re-arrangment, and the library too! In 2022 exactly, I'll be just retired, and I still remember the time when I was browsing the Larousse dictionary in my grandmother's house, contemplating those old engravings showing these strange ships. In 2022, my first trip will be to Paris, to see how they refurbish the Museum!

Hello Rafael,
The images of your hull building technique are very good. Looks like the acrylic putty did a nice job filling in the gaps. I think you have a fine hull. Mike |
