Bravo! This is exceptional work, and I love the figures, birds and other added details. The half-buried anchor is a nice touch, and the buoy is an often neglected feature. But in such a shallow anchorage it is essential for the crew to be constantly aware of a potentially lethal (and self-inflicted) threat.

While a ship drifting over and then impaling herself upon her own anchor is a "fluke accident", even modern vessels are vulnerable. In February 1990, the oil tanker T/V American Trader was attempting to moor at an offshore unloading buoy near Huntington Beach, California. Large ocean swells slammed the ship's bottom onto the seafloor, twice puncturing the hull with the anchor. Since she wasn't a double-hull design, the American Trader promptly leaked about 416,598 gallons of crude oil just 1.3 miles off the coast of "Surf City". A major ecological disaster was mostly averted, but tar balls littered the beaches and an estimated 3,400 birds died. Tankers are now banned from offloading at this location.

One of the finest, if not the finest ship model presentation I have ever seen.

Really excellent!

Your diorama is especially creative (the seagulls and their postures are great), and also well researched - the setting of the anchor bears this out.

Exceptional!

And thank you for all the photos.

Hello friends,

I'm very pleasent surprised about Your intense response for my introduction of my small Navy Cutter-Diorama.
Thank You very much indeed to Mike Mash, Dave H, Beard, Elliot, David, Gregg, dhanners, Volunteer, Southwestforests, John, eatcrow2, Richschindler, frigate264, Seahorse, David T. Okamura, Jin Nunn and Kevin WS !

@John MGD:
In a short time I hope I'll find some time to post a "making-off" about my "Over-and-under-water-dio" here.
Until that a small "thumpnail" to stimulate appetite.....

best regards, and a happy new year

Tommi

Hello, what a pretty model, nice work in every way. I think the "underwater " anchor is really cool!

The great job! May I ask you 2 questions? 1. What kind of paper you used for model and did you cover paper of something wax? 2. What material did you used for crew figurines? Thank you very much and Happy Christmas to you!

Moin Dane,

thx a lot for Your well-meant posting!
HMS Alert, Scale 1:72, is a Full-Laser-Card-Kit published by Shipyard.
The material is mostly Bristol-Card, I added very many selfmade parts and details.
The mast, the bowsprit and the yards are from wood as well as blocks and tackles, the guns are from metal, and the crew is from plastic, producer HÄT.

best regards
Tommi
