USS Ward DD-139

USS Ward is now on the Hawaiian waters .
It's my first paper model of the ship and my first sea diorama.
For making water I used structure paste and artistic acrylic paints.
Some of the details on Ward have been replaced by those done by me(anchors, searchlights, depth charges, ensign).
JSC, scale 1/400

Great little model. She made the impossible shot, hitting the very small conning tower on a mini-sub in rolling seas. No range gear or barrel leveling. I've read even a modern day ship would be lucky to make that shot.
Your sea looks very impressive.

A fine model of a historic warship. You did a grab job with this JSC model. Your craftsmanship if very clean and precise, and the diorama is excellent!

I recently re-watched Tora Tora! Tora! They do a good job of recreating the incident, but I wish they had used a model of a four-stacker rather than the post-war USS Savage (DER-386) to represent Ward.

Very well done. I particularly liked the flag, not a flat rectangle.

Great build. Never had a big interest in the 4 pipers, but that one certainly attended to duty. Almost got assigned to one. Thank the Lord that USAF accepted my request for a service transfer.

I have to say I'm satisfied with the outcome of the water. It's fairly easy way and not expensive.

Amazing build! My only gripe, as a sailor, the Colors would have been flying from the mast underway rather than the Fantail. Colors only fly from the fantail when the ship is tied up in port.

But I'm just picking nits. This is an amazing build especially with the water affect!

Cheers,

John Gay
