IJN Kamikaze, 1/1200 (Etsutan)

I am trying very hard to rebuild my small scale skills after a health crisis. I need to work in smaller scales since discovering that space is rapidly becoming scarce around here! Besides, as a fan of the great Duncan Haws, who built in 1/1200 using mostly cardboard, I felt it would be good to try the same for a variety of reasons.
That said, after botching a Coatney USS Wainwright (though doing better on an HMS Rodney), I needed to try a couple of experiments to hone my skills a little.
Both are from Etsutan's collection, the battleship IJN Kawachi and the destroyer Kamikaze. It's the latter I'll share here.
Both models were reduced to 1/1200.
After downloading the model, I did basic colorizing in Gimp, only to discover that the gray prints out too light, and there were problems with the deck as well. Artist markers to the rescue; a quick swipe of a gray to darken things up a bit, and to touch up the deck (though I did have to use some acrylic paint in one area). Additional work was done by giving the funnels the proper incline, replacing the guns with wire and artist board pieces, adding the awning over the bridge (and small changes there), and making the masts and torpedo tubes out of bamboo.
All in all, I believe it worked out well.

Cheers,
Robert

At 1/1200, that came out very nice.

Outstanding!
It must be damn hard to build in 1/1200 in paper. Ships in this scale are so tiny! I have a metal IJN Yamato 1/1200. AA turrets on this battleship are smaller than a ladybug.
