I had very few time this weekend to relax, so the RMS Mauretania had few improvements. Just the last skylight and one anchor. By the way, this last skylight is (in my opinion) the most complex part of all the model.

This weekend was expended repainting the decks of the RMS Mauretania. There were small zones without paint that showed the grey original surface.
And painted, too, the masts.
The pictures are taken with and without flash

This weekend I finished the handrails and started the vent pipes.
As I said, I'm in the stage where you don't see what can you place, but what remains to finish the model.
The small white figure between the Mauretania and the HMS Onslow is the Protected Cruiser Dupuy de Lome. It's funny to compare the size of a cruiser from 1895 against a destroyer from WWII.

The Mauretania had very big vent pipes. If you remember in this tread, the Lusitania had a very different ones. And the Titanic had them tinner and smaller, lower than the roofs of the structures over the funnel deck.
By the way, the black lines on the pipes will be painted very soon. Once the building is finished, the ship will receive a hand of picture to correct all the small details.

After gluing the VP-2 pipes, I saw that the pipes don't go ON the roof, but through the roof. As I haven't made the holes, I had to unglue, cut and replace the venting pipes. Anyway, they are placed.
Making a count, there are only 40 parts remaining, counting 16 lifeboats, 2 anchors, 4 propellers and 2 masts.
As you can see, the vents were painted in white, removing the black assembly lines.

The anchors are placed (but the last layer of paint hasn't been applied) and the port side boats are placed too.
It means that just 35 parts remains to place (last week I had forgotten the 5 cranes).
So... let's celebrate December 31 with a finished RMS Mauretania?

Finishing the details. Meaning the lifeboats, the pipe vents, some stairs by the sides of the upper deck and the chains of the anchors.
Until now, I used twisted sewing wire to represent the chains. But I tried electrical 110V wire, and it's better.
So from now on this will be the way to do them.
Just 22 pieces remain to do, cranes, masts, some pipes and the propellers.

And the radio wires... couldn't be placed. The glue just can't resist the stress.
I had to make knots on the mast and struts, but when I tried to make the last join to the rear mast... I ended ungluing everything, even the mast and two cranes
So... no wires, just the propellers remain.

Ok, the ship is finished, the propellers are glued!
Or better said, it was supposed to be finished , looking the pictures I found a blade lost.
As I have said a lot about the lack of proper glue in Venezuela, I won't say more. Anyway, this weekend I'll make another blade and a general retouch of the painted surfaces.
The original paper model includes the older propellers with three counterclockwise blades used before 1909, being ok with the painting scheme selected.
My model is based on the 1909 ship, without the white bow stripe and with four bladed propellers. They helped the ship to break a world speed record, and turned (seen from behind and from left to right): clockwise, counterclockwise, clockwise and counterclockwise. (The wooden model isn't mine)
The RMS Mauretania has been one of the most rewarding ships that I have assembled, and it's going to be placed in a place of honor in my collection.
