Since you got started on this path Gerry, any thoughts about Cannons DE, Gleeves and Fletchers, coming on line?

That's a good idea, but ....BUT! I'm not a designer, I'm (only) a graphic designer. I can redraw the model and improve it graphically, I can do a simple design, but I do not dare to the whole model. If there would be a designer, such as waynemac or scissors & planes, who prepares a basic design for me, I could do anything with it.

Yes, he has them. I've already bought Navajo class tug & Northampton class cruiser and there is a great chance that there would appear in 1/400 scale ... ;-)

Regarding the DE, Lou Coatney has an uncolored design in 1/400, the USS Butler.
He has the copy-write, but Lou may agree that you do your "magic" in the model for the benefit of our fellow modelers.

Lou Coatney: FREE BUTLER (USS Samuel B. Roberts, DE413) class U.S. Destroyer Escort

Ok so how does a dumba$$ like me color the DE from Coatney. Print on gray paper? I would really like to do a ship but they just appear so overwhelming. I guess you just have to really love the subject and eat the elephant one bite at a time.

You could print on gray stock or print on white stock then spray paint after.
You could open the gif in something like PaintShop Pro or Photoshop and fill in the parts with gray then print. Probably would have to increase the color depth to make a gray color available for the fill.

Actually I did find a 1/300 model of USS Canon DE here:Modelismo Naval - Uruguay (Destructor escolta)
an old site for Uruguay Naval ships (plus)...No idea if the designer is still around for permission to repaint though...
