Painted out the printed hull steps with Vallejo Model Colour Dark Sea Grey:



Then fitted the individual rungs, crane boom assemblies and stowed tender spars:

Thanks! Trouble is I just realised the cranes are too low; the gun port covers wont fit, so I'll have to cut them off.

So the hull is nearing completion. I added the steps to the stbd. side:



And cut up the casemate gun port cover panels:



I opted to fix them port on stbd. and vice-versa, in order to retain the porthole and hinge detail that would be missing if the correct sides were used. I understand that they probably should be white on their inner surfaces, but I think on balance, the complete lack of printed detail would look worse than any potential technical inaccuracy.









Now I’ve got to do the port side.

Cool trick there friend. The only neg I can see is porthole eyebrows are upside down in last photo. But the effect and thought behind it works!

I knew someone would notice that! OK I’ll paint them out. The shadow will still be upside down on the glazing, but there we go...

The eyebrows would be upside down when the panels are flipped over on their hinges. The shadows are off though.

This model is beautiful and eye-catching in everyway.

I think the point was that the eyebrows wouldn't be fitted on the inside?


In theory I could cut out some port holes form spare parts and glue them on with the correct shadows, but in reality I don't think it's worth it.

No problems at all with any comments!

Just saying - I honestly wouldn’t know if the eyebrows were fitted inside ; if they were, I wouldn’t bother painting them out.

I did notice that, as I think Speedbird said, the rear casemate covers are intended to be double thickness, being white on the inside. The insides do have eyebrows. I didn’t bother thickening the panels, as there would have been a colour mismatch with the others.
