A museum needs to be built around your model. Incredible!

Thank you very much for all your opinions. I think, that some of them are exaggerated.

I made 64 shields. They are black and yellow, as only such shields were found in Gokstad.
It appeared to be hard to squeeze all 32 shields per side, so there are only 2 x 29 and the rest I will place somewhere on the deck.

Well, the nice hull is now covered with ugly shields:-)))

Best
Tomek

It's a shame the shields were already removed at the time of this photo

That would have been quite an undertaking back in 1879 and 80

The top-plank of the ship has yellow and black triangles.
Your model looks great.

Will the model published as paper model?

Vermin_King - great photo. Fortunately N. Nicolaysen wrote his book, where he described the way shields were attached.

Christian - where can I find the info about black and yellow triangles?
Yes. The model is to be published as a kit.

The hull with the shields looks so authentic.
This is a wonderfully unique project.

Werner Dammann has written a wonderful monograph about the Gokstad ship. It was published by "Arbeitskreis historischer Schiffsbau". I wrote some years ago a small book launch for modellmarine.de

I can´t wait for it, what You show is simply breathtaking! I started as a schoolboy a build of the ROAR EGE, a model kit from billing boats of the ship found in Roskilde, but I had no experience with woodworking (still don´t have it), so I gave it up - spoiled and unfinished. This one would fare better with me, I promise!
