Gokstad Ship (scratch, 1:75)

Hello Friends,

I'm starting a new small project - Viking Ship found at the Gokstad, Vestfold, Norway. The ship was buried around 900 AD and excavated in 1880. There are many internet pages about this ship, many replicas have been built and many models have been made, so I'm not going to write about her history.
For those who are interested in all the details Nicolay Nicolaysen's book written in 1882 can be found there (Langskibet Fra Gokstad Ved Sandefjord - GDZ).

I did some experiments with the model and was very curious, if it would work:

1. Frame edges are serrated according to the course of the boards
2. No additional layers - planks go directly on the frames.

So far everything is OK...

Best
Tomek

Excellent work! How did you get the individual shapes of the planks? They have quite extreme curves when laid out flat, must be very difficult to develop...

bailey,
I work with Rhino3D, so it is done automatically provided that the shape is drawn correctly in 3d.

Rhino, ok thanks. Must give it a go. As well as card models I design and make full size boats and canoes, perhaps Rhino could help with this too. Looking forward to your build, Bailey

Hi,
thank you for cheering!
I added 11 planks per side and the last ones (as I expected:-) protrude above the deck. Then I sticked knees. They are 1,4 mm wide. Some pictures below...
