In order to reduce draft of the ship on sides was montaged special pontoons. Where in first September 1939 Germany attacked Poland ORP Toruń was present on Pinsk river together with other vessels of Pinsk River fleet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riveri...he_Polish_Navy ORP Torun didn’t participate with fight against German because German army didn’t approached Pinsk River. When in 17 October Red Army attacked Poland ORP Torun was sunk by their own crew in order to avoid capture. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_invasion_of_Poland 05-10-1939 ORP Torun was raised from bottom by Russian, included into Soviet Navy and renamed Winnica. (The film is from this period. You can see Soviet seamen on this waship) Ship was modernized again and remed into three 76 mm guns and two anti anti-aircraft 12 mm heavy machine guns and four 7,62 Maxim machine guns. When in June 1941 Germany attacked Soviet Russia Winnica was present in Pinsk city. 15 July 1941 was in action the first time and supported with her guns Red Army. In this fight was six times hit. Four times by 75 mm guns and two by 37 mm guns from distance 1000 m. Four men was kild and two was heavy wounded. 16-07-1941 ship run aground and was blow up by own crew in order to avoid capture by Germans. I am going to water line model of this ship from paper. You're off to a great start. Thanks for the video and historical information. It's helpful to be able to place a model into its proper historical perspective.

This model will be built in scale 1:250. The model will be really small only 14 cm. I will have place for other models of ships from Polish River Fleet

Hi Edward,
that's most interesting, I will watch your build closely. I still have an unbuild kit of ORP Warszawa in 1:100, the ships look very similar. Regards Dieter |
