It was a pleasure reading your history of the Barrataria.

One of your best, Corey! Outstanding work on the coloring and weathering. Like Mike, I very much enjoyed the detailed description of the vessel and its history.

Here are a few pictures of the type of gun used. Also, a picture of the narrow blockade runner Clyde after being armed. This was the general idea of the gun arrangement inside the Barrataria as I envision her...I have no idea if this was done in the same way as on the Clyde but it would be possible, given that both ships are so narrow and thus one gun can serve both port and starboard. The bow gun may have been set in a simple ring or, as I have chosen to show it, with mounting looks set at the edge with iron tracks for the training of the piece. This would be much the same as the cannon in the photos.
Anyhow, though not of particular consequence for this 1/250 scale, one could use the photos to up-scale this model to a larger 1/100 scale and put a whole lot of details into the guns...

In the absence of reliable documentation, it looks to me as if you are making some very well-informed and plausible guesses. You have been studying, designing, and building these ACW riverine vessels for so long, that I for one trust your judgment on such matters.
And if someone comes in with persuasive evidence to the contrary, you have a great excuse to build another model. Don |

A little more done! Bit by bit. I wonder if the little houses on the back are out houses for the ships crew? The stacks are a bit of a bear to roll but the first came out well enough. Now to duplicate that. I left three iron faced plates in the down position on the bow for the bow gun, it will be covering the starboard shore along with the gun amid ships. So far so good!

Looks like some good progress on the vessel.
You should do a model of the seaplane tender USS Barataria (AVP-33) and display both side by side.

I looked that up, Doug! A USN version (1944-45) and a USCG Vietnam service 1968) version would be cool.. a little out of my comfort zone however... but tempting! I will think about it
