I made some steering wheels. As usual for gaming so I made a couple of versions.
The simple versions are just like paper figures. But then I also made a version of a double wheel setup. I make them "detachable". So you can glue them in place or you use them modular and put them wherever you want :-) I am hoping that this way I can dress a "naked" ship differently depending on the current needs. When I get to a finalized build I will add some rope to the double wheel build as I have seen it in research. I am guessing this drives the rudder deep down in the ship belly. Cheers, Chris

Tut, tut. More terminology bloopers...
They are Helms matey, not steering wheels. They do indeed control the rudder, but that's on the stern (Back end) not deep down in the belly. Consequently, to keep the lines (ropes) short, the helm of an old wooden ship is always near the stern, but it musta bin difficult for the steersman to see where he was going (For'ard) with all them sails in the way.

Yeah, I got to learn all the right words for this topic. Helm sounds familiar though from Starship Enterprise movies. Thanks for pointing this out. Always welcome tips like that. I just translated it from German.

Well, Ravensblight doesn't list the helm on the reference chart, but it can help with other terms.

The helm is most likely to be on the Quarter Deck but a few would have it right up on the poop deck. And no that's got nothing to do with the latrine facilities. They were more likely to be for'ard o' the Fo'c'sle.
