Waynemac’s USS Sterett DD 407 (1945)

Thank you Waynemac.

This is my second build of your destroyer series destined to help push paper modeling at next month’s (July) Ship Modelers Association meeting. Also, thank you for providing the ships history.

Following are a few suggestions for those interested in giving this a try:

Print the parts page twice, The second page becomes an important reference during the build process.

Parts page given a protective coating of Krylon acrylic gloss.

Card board used was a bit thick for this size model; thinner the better.

A curved dental tool helped apply glue and also for removal of excess. Aleens tacky glue used throughout.

A Zirconium Nitrate coated #11 X-Acto Z blade was used. The regular X-acto #11 blade tips quickly curl. The old blades held a better point and didn’t require constant stone sharpening; I suspect a manufacturing change was made somewhere along the way.

Final build measured:
6 inches long, 1/2 inch wide, 1 inch high to fire detector then 1 3/4 inches to top of mast.
