needs more flags !
(sorry, amateur vexillologist) can even be a gaming function for it: identify squadron/affiliation, presence of admiral/pirate king on board, status of ship (on fire, quarantined, etc...) |

As always, your textures are first rate. A great looking model.

Part of the issue was that flags were not always consistent across time and place. For example, in the table I made below, the rank flags would be accurate for the Royal Navy between 1805-1864 but not before or after and not for related organisations (like the Royal Naval Reserve or the Royal Naval Voluntary Reserve). between 1702-1805, the flags for the red squadron were different and after 1864, the system was actually much simpler. Depending on the level of realism you're after, I could post flags or links that relate to specific countries and time periods (say the age of piracy which is ~1650 to ~1730) or if you just want all purpose ones, that is certainly doable. |

Thank you for the samples!
I would certainly be interested in flags for at least the major players of the classic pirate era like England, France, Spain. I have collected these so far ... Chris

Hi,
- Is the Union Jack in the above pictures with the red diagonal cross, i.e. the St. Patrick's saltine? As far as I remember that got added to the Union Jack only in the early 1800s. - For the Spanish the Cross of Burgundy might have been also used - Maybe the Dutch might be a worthy addition, using the Statenvlag |

The dutch had chartered companies (Dutch East India Company & Dutch West India Company) so they would be pretty tasty targets for pirates. |

I don't know much about the details. I just found a WIKI site that had them :-)
Dutch sounds like a good idea! Thanks Chris
