When you mentioned it is available in 1/87th I got excited and went looking.
Since when has a stack of card and paper been worth about $500?
A Dean's Marine model in a similar scale with a f/glass hull and all the metal fittings etc is around the same price, as is Billings etc.
Museum quality and R/C suitable......
I think perhaps card model publishers might need to rethink pricing policies.
Waiting for my skill level to catch up to it, I have in my possession a rather large paper/card model of HMAS Sydney along with laser cuts and brass etchings, that set me back around $100.
I thought that was a tad expensive for a card model but it is the only "Sydney" I could find, but $500 just seems silly.
agreed but if mayby someone is sill enough to buy .it .most i have paid for card was 100 euros on two occasions.dont know that that converts into your money but they were both basic models without laser parts

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but since you're discussing model prices... I first got into card modelling for two reasons, one was to build a model of the HMAS Vendetta in a large scale, the second was to save money, compared to the ridiculous cost of plastic models...

Having said that, I now seem to be spending an average of $100 AU per kit... my current build has set me back close to $200 if I add extra building materials and paints etc, my next kit, if it ever arrives will be around the same... which ironically, is more than I ever would've spent on a plastic kit.

yes think postage plays a big part as all the best puiblishers are in europe.i do buy downloads when thats is an option as i get a good deal from my local print shop.on the plus side you can make paper models as many times as you like

As a recovery p1@$+1( addict I am glad that I didn't fell for r3$1n!

I guess it depends on the size of the models you like, the bigger the model, the greater opportunity to expend.
For example if you consider an aircraft carrier all the extra photo-etched, plus extra planes, laser cut deck, paint, you airbrush, and the extra decals for the air-wing.

A detail model is going to be expansive, either in extra fittings or in the time you are expending in the details (like every single plane in an aircraft-carrier is a little model by itself).

A) Can you afford it, go ahead.
B) Is your wife going to complain, well.......
